Ebonyi State has always been popular for rice production. The reason is that rice farming has kept receiving huge attention from both government and individuals. Through rice farming, a lot of Ebonyians have got something doing to earn their living.

Unarguably, the popularity of Abakaliki Rice has continued to grow, thanks to the recent ban on the importation of rice by the Federal Government as well as the ban on sale of foreign rice by Ebonyi State government. These decisions by both FG and Ebonyi State government have immensely contributed towards making Abakaliki rice a household name in Nigeria. Ebonyi has also done well by rebranding the rice to acceptable standard,which is why Nigerians now prefer it to foreign rice.
